    Emily’s notes:

    Isolation comes in many forms:

    Caregivers

    Loss

Housing (you can live in a community and still be isolated/lonely)

    LGBTQIA+

    Native American

    Afro American

Take aways to help reduce isolation:

    Have consistent programming

Thoughtful programming to include cultures/communities above

    Intergenerational programming

    Friendly visiting programs

Digital literacy- working with younger people to understand this digital age also connection with family/friends etc

Home delivered meals can lead to further resources/services

I would love to hear from others what your take away were!

    Hi Emily/Blog,

I’m so sorry I was unable to attend the recent MGA Social Isolation & Loneliness Roundtable Zoom meeting. Thank you so much for the meeting link and resources email message that you sent to all of us. I just finished watching/listening to the meeting and recording.

So much great information and ideas! I will share also with my Bunker Hill Community College HR Dept. supervisor in case useful/relevant for the mental health resources information that she oversees disseminating to us College-wide employees. Appreciated the resource links that had been shared, too.

I’m so glad for the UMass Aging Services Management grad certificate that I earned back in 2011, and for the knowledge and connections it underpinned for me in my own journey continuing currently in my care assistance to my 96-year-old parent living nearby in subsidized senior housing, and the challenges that both she and I face (including me doing this as an only adult child balanced with my fulltime work, own health issues, and financial-challenges juggling). Lots of good insights about diverse-demographics experiences, too, including in the Afro-American and LGBTQ+ communities.

Wishing you a great week ahead,

    Gary
